Featured Artist
Dr. John Antoine Labadie

As an artist I am a collector of ideas who responds to what is often viewed as the trivia and the ephemera in the world in which I pursue my research and creative practice. As such, the subjects of my artwork vary quite widely. My current interests are: Asian popular culture, data mining, visual cognition, nonrealistic computer graphics, topology, “Kustom Kulture” (USA 1950 – 60s) and techniques of scientific visualization.

My art-making processes most often involve various modes of digital studio practice seamlessly blended into or combined with traditional media.  In making artwork I often begin with scans of my drawings or with found objects -- either electronic or physical. Clearly focused experimentation with imagery and technical processes is a constant factor in my work.

Even so, the continuous and rapid evolution of artistic foci and technical means has been the status quo for the last decade.

My artistic products vary greatly in their final forms: large scale prints on a variety of materials from paper to plastics; projections with single or multiple data projectors; monitor-based works displayed on groups of computers; installations involving found objects, vinyl graphics and projected images; and drawings and paintings in traditional and mixed media.
